On Wednesday afternoon you can also put on comfortable clothes and shoes as we will go to Beaune for cultural visits.

French strikes

As you already know, the French railway company (SNCF) has been on strike since the beginning of April. At the moment, the strikes are scheduled to carry on until the end of June. The strike days scheduled around our Staff Week are 17th, 18th, 22nd and 23rd June. But don't panic, your journey will most probably be fine if you decided to take the train.

We hope the strikes will be over before the beginning of the Staff Week. If not, there is a possibility that your train will be cancelled. But as the strikes have been going on since the beginning of the April, less people strike and hence it is likely that there are less cancelled trains.

To have an idea of how many trains could be cancelled, here is an example of the different types of trains circulating on the 28th May:

  • Fast TGV trains: 2 of 3 trains are circulating normally.
  • Regional slow TER trains: 1 of 2 trains are circulating normally.
  • International trains: 3 of 4 trains are circulating normally.
  • Transilien trains: 3 of 5 trains are circulating normally.
  • Intercités trains: 2 of 5 trains are circulating normally.

Here is the latest information we received on 26th May from the railway company (SNCF) officers about the strikes and train cancelations:

The railway company (SNCF) will give you two official possibilities:

  • Get your money back. In that case you must find another solution for your journey.
  • Change your train ticket for another train for free.

Good to know: in some cases SNCF puts in a replacement bus service for cancelled trains.

In some cases the railway company (SNCF) offers to exchange your ticket automatically. If this is the case, we advise you to accept the offer if the train they propose you is in coherence with your journey plans.

If SNCF doesn't offer to exchange your train ticket automatically, you should do it yourself on their website, mobile app or at a railway station.

Good to know:

  • SNCF officers told us you are not necessary obliged to exchange your ticket and you can still take any other train with the same itinerary without any consequence of paying penalties. In this case, it is possible you won't have a reserved seat and you will be obliged to travel in the train's bar/restaurant, sit on unreserved seating or sit on the floor. But the good news is that you will be able to get to your destination since you can take any other train and there are lot of trains circulating normally.
  • Tickets for some trains displayed on the SNCF website are not available for buying – it is because SNCF keeps these trains available for people whose trains will be cancelled so it is likely the SNCF will suggest you take these trains if yours is cancelled.

If you have tickets for a fast TGV train and you entered your e-mail address when you bought your train tickets, you will get a notification 2 or 3 days before your travel. If you indicated only your mobile phone number, you will get a message the day before your trip.

If you have a ticket for slow TER regional train, you must check on the SNCF website from 17:00 the day before to see if your train is cancelled.

If you have an international train ticket and have left your contact details, you should be informed approximately one week before. Different policies can apply for different international train companies concerning exchanging tickets and reimbursement.

You can consult the SNCF website in English which gives you updated information.

Bus: there are several bus companies going to Dijon from other big French cities and the prices are often a lot lower than train tickets. The journey will last longer but you can be certain that your bus won't be cancelled. Here is a reminder of the bus companies: Flixbus, Isilines, Eurolines, and finally Ouibus which is part of the railway company SNCF but won't be concerned by the strikes.

Car pool: check-out BlaBlaCar website.
